What is Discovery?

It is the act of exchanging evidence and information.  Often, you will hear an attorney say they “need to get discovery.”  What that really means is they need to get the evidence from the prosecutor.  This evidence could include police reports, body worn camera footage, dashcam footage, a police officer’s notes, witnesses’ statements, etc.

Discovery motions are one of the many tools the attorneys at Treleven & Klingensmith utilize to investigate your case.  Having former prosecutors on our team gives us an advantage over other lawyers.  We know what to look for, what to ask for and how to get the government to turn it over.

Discovery from the prosecutor’s office is just the beginning.  Our attorneys are experienced using public record requests, investigators and expert witnesses to build your defense.
