How Much Coverage Do I Need?
Each state, including Ohio, requires you to carry a minimum amount of liability coverage. Liability coverage is broken down into 2 categories: bodily injury/death and property damage. In Ohio, you are required to carry at least $25,000 for injury/death of one person / $50,000 for injury/death of two or more people per vehicle. You are also required to carry $25,000 for property damage.
We strongly encourage you to choose more than the state minimum for you coverage. Minimum coverage is not enough to cover the costs from even the most minor accidents. If you don’t have enough insurance coverage, you could personally be sued and be on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars.
We recommend opting for liability coverage in the amount of $250,000 for injury/death of one person / $500,000 for injury/death to two or more people per vehicle. Car accidents are expensive. In 2018, the CDC estimated fatal accidents resulted in $55 billion in associated costs. Choosing the right amount of liability coverage is one of the most important decisions to make when purchasing car insurance. Whatever you do, protect yourself by choosing more than the state minimum.
