What is Diversion?

Diversion is a program created by many courts to give first time offenders a chance to keep a criminal conviction off of their record.  Typically if you have never been convicted of a crime you will be eligible.

How Does  Diversion work?

Although it varies by each court and jurisdiction, typically a person is required to do community service, pay court costs and program fees and stay out of trouble for a period of time.

Most misdemeanors and some felonies are eligible for the diversion program.

After completion of the program, the charge is dismissed and your record is sealed or expunged.

What is the Benefit of Diversion?

It takes the “gamble” out of the case. Once you are accepted into diversion, and as long as you complete the requirements, you will be found not guilty, the case dismissed and your record sealed. It will be like it never happened.
